Pianist Alexandra Sostmann is regarded as an excellent interpreter of Bach, as evidenced by her outstanding recording of the Well-Tempered Clavier (released in 2023 by Prospero). However, in the musical work of pianist Alexandra Sostmann, not only Johann Sebastian Bach plays a predominant role, but also the pursuit of tracing developments and connections in music history and making these references audible.
On her new album “from silence,” she remains true to this approach: once again, she spans the arc from the Baroque to the present day – including two commissioned works by Rouzbeh Rafie and Apollonio Maiello, specifically written for the album. It is primarily the transformations and transitions that fascinate the pianist. Silence also plays an important role here – as an integral part of music and as a cipher for what cannot be expressed in words.
