A pianist who redefines musical boundaries.
As a soloist on the great concert stages of the world, she captivates her listeners with her magnificent pianistic skills. She seemingly effortlessly transitions from one era to another. This is also demonstrated by her five cross-era solo albums: ‘Bach & Contemporary Music’ (2014), ‘Bach – Chopin’ (2017), ‘Bach, Byrd, Gibbons + Contemporary Music’ (2020), ‘Grenzgänge’ (2021), and from silence (2025), whose bold compilation and brilliant execution have been unanimously praised by reviewers. In 2024, ‘The Well-Tempered Clavier I’ was released, prompting Radio Bremen to exclaim: ‘Under Sostmann’s fingers, Bach’s music sounds incredibly clear and logical, yet also musical and authentic. Alexandra Sostmann achieves the impossible here; her Bach playing unites heart and mind in an ideal balance.’
Several albums have also been nominated for the German Record Critics’ Award, the Opus Klassik, and the ICMA.

The pianist Alexandra Sostmann is not only known for her polished Bach playing, but also for her developments and cross-connections in concert and CD programmes that trace the history of music.
In her latest CD recording, she remains true to this line when she spans from the Baroque to the present day, from Bach to Toshio Hosokawa. In doing so, she endeavours to shed light on the concept of music as a medium between immanence and transcendence that can be found in almost every culture.
It is above all the transformations and transitions reflected in music that fascinate the pianist. But silence also plays an important role – as an integral part of music and as a cipher for what cannot be said with words.
The album with works by Bach, Berio, Crumb, Kurtag, Taverner and many others will be available from March 2025.
